Special Education Position Information

The Sedgwick County Special Education Cooperative (Coop) hires and places Certified Teachers and Para Educators in the Valley Center Schools. The following opportunities currently exist: 

VCIS (4 Positions) 18 - 35 hours/week
West 36 hours/week
Wheatland (2 positions) 36 hours/week
VCHS (6 positions) 35-36 hours/week

Functional Special Education Teacher    
(Functional Applied Academics– Low Incidence)

Location: Valley Center Intermediate (link to building)

Description: Provide support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for facilitating learning for special education students; instruct, assess, and program plan for students with intellectual disabilities, monitoring and evaluate student progress and behavior; research, obtain, and provide instructional materials for special education services including vocational; serve as a resource for students, parents, and District personnel; work within a self-contained classroom.

Qualifications:  Must have one of the following:
-Current KSDE licensure in Functional/Elementary

-Current KSDE licensure in Elementary or Adaptive (high incidence) and interested in becoming licensed to teach special education students on a waiver (tuition assistance provided).

Adaptive Special Education Teacher (Instructional Support – High Incidence)

Location: Valley Center Middle School

Description: Provide support to the instructional process by serving as a special education teacher with specific responsibility for facilitating student success in general education academic areas; supervising special education students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

Must have one of the following Qualifications:
-Current KSDE licensure in Adaptive/High Incidence and Secondary Education

-Current KSDE licensure in Secondary Education and interested in becoming certified/licensed to teach special education students on a waiver (tuition assistance provided).
